The wine

Le Tertre de Lys d'Or Cuvée d'Exception 2019 is a Sauternes made from the classic blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Sémillon, highly receptive to noble rot, brings richness, honey and apricot; Sauvignon Blanc adds freshness and citrus, keeping the wine balanced.

In the glass

The nose is expressive, with candied orange peel, ginger and ripe yellow peach, then acacia honey, white blossom and a touch of brioche and vanilla from the oak. The palate is rich and sweet, with a fresh finish.

At the table

Serve it chilled with foie gras, blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Stilton, or fruit desserts like a pear tart or lemon soufflé. It also pairs well with lightly spicy dishes. Our team can suggest the right moment in your meal.

Where it comes from

Sauternes, in the Graves area of Bordeaux, is famous for its sweet wines. Misty autumn mornings, created where the cool Ciron meets the warmer Garonne, encourage noble rot, which shrivels the grapes and concentrates their sugar and aromas.

The vintage and the winemaking

2019 was an excellent Bordeaux vintage: a hot, dry summer followed by autumn rains that triggered a clean spread of noble rot. Harvest is by hand in several passes, picking only botrytised grapes, and the wine is fermented slowly and aged in French oak barrels.

Appellation

AOC Sauternes, which guarantees the wine's origin and its traditional production rules, including hand harvesting.
