The wine

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates, rooted in the village of Volnay in the Côte de Beaune. This bottling from the acclaimed Premier Cru vineyard Les Caillerets showcases the finesse, purity, and longevity that fine Pinot Noir can achieve in exceptional Burgundian terroir.

In the glass

This wine displays a radiant ruby hue with soft garnet highlights toward the rim. The nose is perfumed and expressive, offering aromas of wild raspberries, dark cherries, and dried rose petals, balanced by subtle notes of sweet spice and forest floor.

On the palate, it is remarkably silky and poised. Layers of bright red fruit are supported by ultrafine tannins and a vibrant line of acidity, leading into a lingering finish marked by a distinct, chalky minerality.

At the table

The refined structure and savoury complexity of this Volnay make it a magnificent companion for French culinary classics. It harmonises beautifully with pan-seared duck breast served with a redcurrant reduction, roasted quail, or a tender rack of lamb with fresh herbs. For a meat-free option, a rich wild mushroom ragout brings out the wine's earthy nuances.

Our team will be happy to suggest a match from the current menu or the seasonal degustation.

Where it comes from

Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Volnay is celebrated for producing red Burgundy of unmatched fragrance and elegance. The premier cru vineyard of Les Caillerets takes its name from the small limestone stones scattered throughout its soils, which provide excellent drainage and impart a distinct mineral tension to the wine.

The vintage and the winemaking

The 2016 vintage in Burgundy saw low yields due to severe spring frost, but warm and dry late-summer conditions allowed the surviving fruit to mature perfectly. The resulting grapes produced wines with vibrant acidity, strong concentration, and remarkable aromatic purity.

At Domaine de la Pousse d'Or, winemaking prioritises precision and minimal intervention. The grapes are carefully sorted and destemmed before gentle extraction, followed by maturation in French oak barrels to enhance texture while preserving the unique voice of the vineyard.

Appellation

Volnay Premier Cru is the official classification for the elite vineyard sites within the village of Volnay in Burgundy. The Les Caillerets climat is widely regarded as one of the finest premier crus in the entire Côte de Beaune.
