The wine

Kim and Erica Crawford founded their label in 1996 in Auckland, sourcing grapes from the best vineyards of Marlborough. Their bold, fruit-forward Sauvignon Blanc quickly became one of the best-known New Zealand whites in the world, and this 2021 shows that signature style.

In the glass

Pale and bright. The nose is instantly expressive: passionfruit, white peach and pink grapefruit, balanced by fresh-cut grass, nettle and lime zest, with a hint of wet stone. The palate is crisp, zesty and refreshing, with a clean finish.

At the table

Perfect with fresh seafood: oysters with a squeeze of lime, grilled prawns, or a pot of mussels. Its herbal notes also suit dishes with fresh herbs, asparagus or pesto, and it is a classic match for fresh goat's cheese. Ask our team for a match from the current menu.

Where it comes from

Marlborough, at the north-eastern tip of New Zealand's South Island, put the country on the world wine map. Long sunny days, cool nights and free-draining stony soils give Sauvignon Blanc intense flavour and vibrant natural acidity.

The vintage and the winemaking

In 2021, spring frosts and a cool flowering period cut yields across Marlborough, but a warm, dry summer gave small, concentrated berries with excellent acidity. The grapes are picked in the cool of the night and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with no oak, to keep the wine fresh and pure.

Appellation

As a New Zealand wine, it carries a Geographical Indication (Marlborough GI) rather than a European appellation, guaranteeing that the grapes come from Marlborough.
